Read the board correctly
The quote direction matters as much as the number.
If a board says 30.5 Thai baht per US dollar, compare it with a reference expressed as Thai baht per US dollar. Comparing it with the inverse rate produces a meaningless verdict.
Next, ask how much currency you will actually receive after every commission and service charge. The calculator estimates the rate spread; fixed fees need to be added separately.

How do I compare an exchange counter rate?
Make sure the counter quote and reference rate use the same direction, then compare how much destination currency each gives for one unit of your home currency.
Is a zero-commission exchange always cheaper?
No. A counter can advertise zero commission while building its profit into a weaker exchange rate. Compare the final amount received and ask about fixed fees.
